ORDER OF SAINT LOUIS, KNIGHT’S CROSS OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN, awarded to Marquis Pierre de Radiguès, captain of infantry in the Rrovence Regiment in 1699, Old Monarchy, Reign of Louis XIV, late 17th century. 34245

Made of gold and enamel; the tips are knurled; the recesses on the arms are striated; the centers are nearly spherical (diameter 15 mm) and cast in a single piece with champlevé enamel; side iron rivets; ornate loop, smooth crossbar.

BIOGRAPHY: Pierre Radiguès Marquis, Paris 1656 – Battle of Malplaquet 1709.Pierre de Radiguès, known as de Saint Guédal, registered under the latter name in the French army, born in Paris, baptized in the parish of Saint-Séverin, joined the Champagne Regiment, where he was commissioned as a lieutenant on November 26, 1681, and continued his career in the Provence Regiment. Appointed captain by commission on December 21, 1694, he was awarded the Cross of Saint Louis in 1699 and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel shortly before the Battle of Malplaquet (1709), where he was killed in action. Pierre was the first in his branch of the family to reclaim the title of marquis a few weeks before his death. His widow died at the Château de Samrée on January 24, 1743, leaving behind two children.
