Kpm Berlin Biedermeier Cabinet Cup And Saucer With Painted Landscapes, C.1830

An elegant antique German hard-paste porcelain cabinet tea or coffee cup and saucer, attributed to the Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur), circa 1830.

Produced during the Biedermeier period, the set combines finely painted landscape miniatures with richly tooled gilding characteristic of high-quality Berlin cabinet porcelain from the first half of the 19th century. High-quality cabinet porcelain was occasionally produced without factory marks.

The cup is formed in the classic KPM Glockenform, or bell shape, with gently curved walls, a simple gilt loop handle and a richly burnished gilt interior. Both pieces are decorated with finely hand-painted polychrome enamel landscapes depicting an idealised German countryside.

The landscape reserves are enclosed within a refined tooled gilt border on a crisp white ground. The decoration is divided into four symmetrical sections by stylised bellflower or lotus-bud motifs with C-scroll volutes, alternating with feathered palmettes and delicate botanical sprays executed in burnished gold.

The undersides retain their unglazed foot rims, with expected light shelf wear and minor firing characteristics consistent with early 19th-century porcelain production.

Condition:

Light wear to the gilding on both pieces. The saucer has a stable hairline crack visible on the exterior but not from the interior. Otherwise, both pieces remain in excellent antique condition.
