"Gardner Porcelain Tea Cup And Saucer, Moscow, C.1880, Cobalt & Floral"
Well-preserved Gardner Moscow tea cup and saucer,
c.1880. Deep cobalt ground with hand-painted floral medallions, gilt scrollwork
and white arabesques; a small rose painted inside the cup. Printed factory mark
“Фабрики Гарднеръ въ Москвѣ” No 4 beneath the Moscow arms on both pieces; red
hand-painted “128” to cup base. Founded in 1766 by Francis Gardner, the factory
became a leading supplier to the Imperial Court and is noted for precise
enamelling. This teacup and saucer are highly collectible, reflecting the
refinement of late 19th-century Russian porcelain.
Dimensions: saucer diameter 13 cm, height 2.5 cm; cup
height 4.5 cm, width 10 cm, diameter 8 cm.
Condition: minor, almost imperceptible scuffs to the
blue; otherwise excellent antique condition.
