A pair of large, lidded, quadrangular porcelain vases in the ‘Yellow Family’ style, decorated with polychrome enamel depictions of birds perched on perforated rocks and branches of plum trees and blooming peonies within lobed medallions against a green foliage background; the lids are adorned with longevity fruits.

These pieces are inspired by works from the Qing Dynasty, and more specifically by the famous ‘Yellow Family’ and ‘Green Family’ porcelain highly prized during the Kangxi period (1662–1722). The iconographic motif traditionally combined blossoming flowers, rocks of immortality and peaches to symbolise wishes for longevity and prosperity.

This pair of square tea pots illustrates the enduring popularity of Chinoiserie-style art furniture and decorative objects throughout the 20th century.
