Bow Porcelain Figure Of A Lady With Lamb And Flowers, C.1760
An antique English soft-paste porcelain figure of a lady standing beside a lamb and holding flowers in her apron, produced at the Bow Porcelain Manufactory, London, circa 1760. Decorated in coloured enamels and enriched with gilding, it stands on a low base applied with flowers and foliage.
The composition belongs to the pastoral taste popular in mid-18th-century English porcelain. The underside bears the recognised iron-red anchor and dagger mark used at Bow about 1760.
Bow was one of the leading early English porcelain factories active from the mid-1740s until the 1770s. After its peak in the 1750s, the factory declined and in 1776 was absorbed into Derby.
