Biedermeier Chests Of Drawers, Cherry Wood Veneer, Southern Germany, 1830s–1840s
A two-door low cabinet (pillar cabinet) from the Biedermeier period, originating from southern Germany. The body is made of softwood and veneered with cherry; the veneer patterns are arranged with a pronounced continuous grain.
Above the two doors is a full-width drawer. The doors are also originally veneered on the inside. The cabinet rests on short, block-shaped legs that extend from the edges of the body.
The brass hardware has been cleaned. The cabinet has been restored, polished with shellac, and is ready for use.
