On a marble mantelpiece, painted as a diptych, two bouquets of flowers in undecorated vases face each other. The predominant variety in both bouquets is roses, rendered with great finesse. They exude an atmosphere of abundance, delicacy, and lightness.
Over the course of their long history—they were painted around 1800—these still lifes have been re-stretched and are in excellent condition. The same is true of their original gilded wood frames.
