Large Painted And Lacquered Wooden Store Display Case, Late 19th Century
A beautiful and rare store display case or display cabinet, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900.
Large in size and designed for displaying merchandise, it features a wooden structure with painted and lacquered decoration in light tones, enhanced by detailing that mimics the grain of the wood.
The upper section is particularly noteworthy: it features a sloped glass shelf, which was once used to display objects or merchandise while protecting them and making them easier to view. This is topped by a vertical back panel also fitted with two glass panels.
This display case retains a beautiful patina of use, with wear, marks, and irregularities in the original finish—all characteristic of its age and original purpose.
Note: A pane of glass is cracked on the right side of the front panel.
