"yin Yang" Swivel Coffee Table By Willy Rizzo, Italy, Ca. 1970
The Les Merciers Gallery is privileged to present this sculptural "Yin Yang" coffee table, a true icon of 1970s "jet-set" chic, designed by the legendary Italian photographer and designer Willy Rizzo.
Originally conceived to furnish his own Roman apartment on the Piazza di Spagna, this exceptional piece quickly captivated the high society of the era, from Salvador Dalí to Brigitte Bardot. Designed as a kinetic and functional work of art, the table rests on a 360-degree rotating base that moves with remarkable fluidity.
It features a spectacular contrast of materials: a deep black lacquered frame, an elegant glass top with subtle textural effects, and the iconic integrated central basin. The latter, the artist’s true signature, is machined from solid brass. It is designed to serve as a champagne bucket during receptions or to hold a floral arrangement.
Condition and Authenticity:Piece in superb original condition (Rating: 8.5/10). The rotating mechanism works perfectly. The solid brass basin has retained all its luster and authentic patina. In the interest of complete transparency, we note the presence of minute micro-scratches—normal wear and tear for a piece over 50 years old—as well as a very discreet white micro-chip (barely visible to the naked eye) and a small dent on the base, none of which detract in any way from the spectacular presence of this table.
