Polychrome Majolica Arrocchetto-shaped Albarello With A Noble Coat Of Arms, Central Italy, 17th Century

A rare polychrome majolica albarello in the “arrocchetto” shape from central Italy, dating to the 17th century.

The vessel features the classic “arrocchetto” shape, typical of 17th-century apothecary jars, with a pronounced central narrowing designed to make it easier to grip. The front is dominated by an elegant painted noble coat of arms set within a rich Baroque cartouche, framed by a polychrome plant motif in shades of blue, green, and yellow. The reverse is adorned with large spiral motifs in cobalt blue on a white background, characteristic of majolica production in central Italy.

The decoration, executed with a vibrant color palette and refined painterly quality, attests to a production intended for apothecaries or prestigious patrons.
