Édouard Gilles (1868–1895) cache-pot. Training and early career: Édouard Gilles began his career with training as a porcelain painter—a mastery of painting that is clearly reflected in his later work. He further honed his skills while serving as workshop manager for Collinot, a Parisian firm renowned for its Oriental-inspired glazed earthenware. The Paris workshop: In 1868, Gilles established his own independent practice in Paris. His primary workshop was located at 2bis Boulevard Jourdan, where, starting in the 1880s, he began producing his own successful artistic earthenware. Signature: Pieces created by him or his workshop typically bear the monogram or stamp "E.G." on the underside. This cache-pot features Asian-inspired scenes depicting birds, flowers, and vegetation. The rim and base are accented with vibrant turquoise borders, while the raised side handles are sculpted in the form of elephant heads. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. Its dimensions are 25 cm in height, 42 cm in diameter at its widest point, and 18 cm in diameter at the base. Delivery within France is available.
