Eugène Collinot Enameled Planters

Eugène Collinot (1824–1889) ran a renowned factory in Boulogne-sur-Seine and was considered one of the finest ceramicists of his time, distinguishing himself at the World’s Fairs with his Orientalist and Japonist creations.
Often compared to Théodore Deck, he left a profound mark on the history of the decorative arts through his technical innovations and his taste for the exotic.
He invented (patented in 1864) the technique of outlined relief enameling on earthenware,a process that involves separating colored glazes with a raised line (the “outline”) to prevent them from mixing during firing, thereby imitating Asian cloisonné.
This planter is decorated with Asian-inspired motifs depicting birds, flowers, and insects. Its neck and base are adorned with bright turquoise borders, and its raised side handles are shaped like elephant heads.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
Its dimensions are 25 cm in height, 42 cm at its widest point, and 18 cm at the base.
