Pair Of Jacob Petit Porcelain Bottles

Pair of polychrome porcelain bottles signed Jacob Petit, dating from the 19th century. These bottles are in good overall condition with no missing pieces, some wear to the gilding, and the stoppers have small chips on the underside, invisible to the naked eye (see last photos). The dimensions are 14.50 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Delivery available in France and Europe. Photos available. Jacob Petit (1796-1865): the most famous porcelain maker of the century, did not initially intend to be a ceramist. He began by studying painting with Gros, then traveled throughout Europe. England instilled in him a taste for decorative objects: upon his return to France in 1830, he quickly published a collection of interior decorations, including everything related to furnishings. Soon, porcelain seemed to him the best way to express his tastes. In Sèvres, a temporary workshop served as a first attempt. Around 1830, Jacob Petit established a business in Belleville. With success and ambition on his side, in 1838 the porcelain manufacturer acquired the modest company of Baruch Weill in Fontainebleau; it was a resounding success, and he quickly tripled the number of workers. In 1850, he consolidated his two factories in Avon, but a few years later, in 1862, he retired to Rue du Paradis-Poissonnière, handing over his business to one of his employees, Jacquemain.
