A bedside panel or “bonne grâce” made of Normandy linen, in madder-red "indienne" with neoclassical motifs, a full width of fabric dating from the early 19th century. Printed on cotton using copper plates and a wax-resist technique for the madder-red background. Likely produced at the Bolbec or Rouen factory. Medallion designs featuring vases and scenes of Bacchus adorned with oak and laurel leaves. Neoclassical design featuring large antique-style vases surmounted by medallions depicting scenes of mythological figures.Unlined headboard, fitted with its original brass rings and fully piped with indigo silk ribbon.
No holes or stains; the madder red has retained all its dye strength. Excellent condition for its age. A second, identical valance is available (see the last photo) and for sale separately.
