Pendant reliquary containing a relic attributed to Saint Helena, Empress and mother of Emperor Constantine.

Description

The relic is set against a red silk background, at the center of a radiating design made of gilded, cut-out paper. The handwritten cartouche bears the Latin inscription: “Ex brachio S. Helenae Imp.,” meaning “from the arm of Saint Helena, Empress.”

The reverse retains its closing threads as well as an ecclesiastical seal in red wax bearing a coat of arms, attesting to the reliquary’s closure. Antique silver-plated metal setting, fitted with an eyelet allowing it to be worn as a pendant.

Condition:

Wear, oxidation, and changes to the interior decoration consistent with its age. The antique cartouche is partially worn but still legible. The wax seal is present, with visible imperfections and irregularities.

An interesting example of private devotion dedicated to Saint Helena, traditionally associated with the discovery of the True Cross.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not part of the transaction but are included as a courtesy due to their historical and cultural value.
