Boulle marquetry chimney bellows, second half of the 19th century.

Fireplace bell dating from the second half of the 19th century, made of wood and decorated on one side with Boulle marquetry combining cut brass and red-stained tortoiseshell. The composition, inspired by the Louis XIV style, is centered around a central cartouche animated by foliage, scrolls, and cut-out plant motifs, creating a refined design characteristic of this decorative technique, which experienced a significant revival during the 19th century.

The reverse side is veneered with rosewood, highlighting the contrast between the simplicity of this side and the ornate richness of the marquetry. The piece is completed by a turned brass end cap and brown studded leather trim, retaining all the charm of its antique patina.

Today, this bellows is intended primarily for decorative use. The leather shows signs of wear and several tears due to age, making it no longer functional. However, these imperfections in no way detract from the appeal of this piece, which makes a beautiful decorative accent to complement an antique fireplace or enhance a classic interior.
