French Art Ceramic 1930, Art Deco Signed l'Auriol - Saturnino 20th Century
Artist: L’auriol - Saturnino
A round ceramic plate featuring a lustrous, metallic copper-red background and a stylized floral design—resembling sunflowers or chrysanthemums—in cream and yellow, accented by turquoise and blue-grey leaves in a distinct Art Deco style. This iridescent, "metallic luster" effect is characteristic of the 1920s and 1930s. The back bears the signature "M. Saturnino" alongside a monogram and a paper label reading "M. L’AURIOL - SATURNINO" (noting a Gold Medal in 1926 and a Grand Prix in 1939); the plate dates to the 1930s, at the height of the Art Deco period. Marius Saturnino L'Auriol (1892–1965) was a French ceramicist renowned for his metallic-luster glazes. Active primarily between 1920 and 1950, he established his workshop at 7 Rue de Charenay in Antony. His style is instantly recognizable: highly glossy copper-red or orange-red backgrounds contrasted with turquoise blues and yellows. He frequently signed his work "M. Saturnino."
