Oil, Marine Signed By édouard Jacques Dufeu - 19th Century
Artist: Edouard Jacques Dufeu
Oil on canvas, large seascape, boats in a harbor, signed by the painter Édouard Jacques Dufeu (1836 - 1900) born in Marseille. The work on this canvas is marked by careful observation, fine work with light, and a realistic but poetic approach to the subject. French painter, watercolorist, engraver and illustrator, Édouard-Jacques Dufeu is an independent and discreet figure of the 19th century art scene. Around 1860, he moved to Paris where he entered the studio of Charles Gleyre, famous teacher of many Impressionist painters. He then became a member of the Société des Aquafortistes, with which he published his first etchings such as Rue du Caire (1862), followed by a series entitled Vues d'Égypte (1865). He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1865 to 1890. These works can be found at the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée du Louvre (Department of Graphic Arts), and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.
