18th-century Earthenware Inkwell. With Its Pewter Ink Cup
A charming little, almost square earthenware inkwell, decorated with flowering branches on each side.
Made in the second half of the 18th century, it comes complete with its pewter inkwell.
Inside, I found the invoice from the antique dealer who sold it in 1995; he attributes it to Grenoble.
It is true that near this city, in La Tronche, there was a very active production center whose decorative styles are similar.
Any additional information is, of course, welcome.
A few small chips, but overall it is in very good condition.
