Lille - Rare Lille Earthenware Mustard Pot Known As "crotteux" - 18th Century
A rare covered Lille earthenware mustard pot, known as a "crotteux" (scrubby) pot, consisting of a tub upon which sits a man with his trousers removed, wearing a manganese hat and a jacket with stylized flowers, his feet resting on a green mound.
The tub bears the manganese inscription: "My mustard is better than Dijon's."
Height: 12.5 cm - Length: 10 cm.
18th century.
The lower part is fractured and restored, as is a chip on the edge of the lid.
