Bronze Buddha - Burma - 17th–18th Century
A rare and elegant bronze sculpture depicting Buddha seated in meditation, his legs crossed on a large pyramidal pedestal. The right hand is depicted in the Bhūmisparśa Mudrā (“touching the earth” gesture), symbolizing the moment of Buddha’s Enlightenment, while the left hand rests on his lap in meditation.
This work stands out for the finesse of its modeling, its serene face with delicate features, its long ears, its finely beaded hairstyle topped by the sacred flame, as well as its imposing stepped pedestal, characteristic of Burmese statuary from this period.
The bronze features a beautiful antique patina with brown and golden-brown hues, along with signs of wear, oxidation, and handling consistent with its age. The base is hollow, cast using traditional techniques, and retains its original mounting rings, likely indicating its use in a religious context.
An authentic, high-quality sculpture, ideal for both collectors of Asian art and enthusiasts of distinctive antique pieces.
