Panel - Monkeys - Meiji Period - Japan - 19th Century

Artist: Cachet D Artiste
Japanese circular panel from the Meiji period (1868–1912), depicting an anthropomorphic scene featuring two monkeys dressed in kimono, busy playing or collecting objects (probably shells or pebbles) on a midnight blue lacquered background. The finesse of the work lies in the delicate inlays, which bring the characters to life with remarkable attention to detail, particularly in the treatment of the fur and traditional clothing. The original circular frame in dark wood underlines the understated elegance of the whole. Two cartouches at the bottom left, probably the signature of the craftsman. Japan 19th century
