Georges Le Serrec de Kervily, born in 1883 in Kharkiv and died in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, was a Symbolist painter—Ukrainianby birth, of French origin, and a naturalized American citizen.
Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, he was the son of a French doctor and Olga EvgrafivnaKrendovskaya, daughter of the painter Evgraf Fedorovich Krendowsky.
After spending his childhood in Ukraine, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and began exhibiting at the Salon des Indépendants in 1907. Between 1909 and1914, he also exhibited in Kyiv, Saint Petersburg, Odessa, at the Salon desI ndependents in Brussels, and at the Devambez Gallery in Paris. In 1914, he was called up and assigned to the Air Force as a draftsman.
With his sights set on a career in the United States, he made his firsttrip to New York in January 1924.Following the success of his exhibition at the59th Street Galleries in New York in 1930, he settled permanently in the United States in 1931 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1938.
A staunchly Symbolist painter, Le Serrec de Kervilly painted primarily portraits of women, but also outdoor scenes in which the influence of Puvis de Chavannes or Odilon Redon.
