Majolica Plate With The Papal Coat Of Arms, Albani, Italy, 18th Century

Artist: Manifattura Romana Del Xviii Secolo

Polychrome majolica plate with a rim decorated with stylized plant motifs in ochre and blue. In the center is a prominent ecclesiastical coat of arms depicting the triple crown and the crossed keys of the papacy, surmounting the Albani family shield—an azure field with a six-pointed star and three golden mountains—the coat of arms of the family that gave the Church Pope Clement XI (1700–1721). This piece was likely commissioned by the family or for a celebratory occasion, and stands as a testament to 18th-century Italian ceramic production in the heraldic tradition.
