A carved and polychrome wooden depiction of Saint Benedict, Tyrol, 18th century. The base features a glass-covered reliquary niche containing the relic designated “S. Benedicti,” surrounded by floral decoration. The figure depicts the saint in a contemplative pose, with his hands clasped before his chest.
On the reverse side, the original sealing ribbon and several wax seals are preserved. Associated with the relic, they attest to the object’s status as a reliquary.
Saint Benedict of Nursia is considered the founder of Western monasticism and the father of the Benedictine Order.
