A Bronze Okimono Of A Samurai With Yari And Katana Signed Gyokko
A bronze okimono depicting a standing samurai holding a yari (Japanese spear) in his left hand, while his right hand rests naturally on the hilt of the katana at his side, signed Gyokko.
He wears a formal costume composed of kimono and kamishimo, with rigid, geometrically structured shoulders executed with great care. The drapery is rendered with deep, regular folds decorated with circular motifs reminiscent of family crests (mon). At his waist he carries two weapons, a katana and a tantō.
The face, characterized by strong and resolute features, is framed by a traditional chonmage hairstyle. He wears traditional footwear. Signed Gyokko on the reverse of the robes within a rectangular cartouche.
The sculpture is supported by a carved wooden base.
