A Six-panel Screen With Magpies And A Riverside Landscape
A six-panel screen on gold silk depicting two blue magpies perched on emerging rocks along the bank of a watercourse.
The composition is restrained and elegant, with mountains faintly suggested on the horizon in soft, blurred outlines, while the rocks and the birds, rendered with stronger chromatic intensity, create a focal point on the right side of the screen.
Attributed to Katō Eishū (1873–1939).
Period: Taishō, circa 1920
Dimensions: 172 × 378 cm
Condition: The screen is in very good condition. Minor wear to the surface, small stains, and retouching of the gilding. Signs of use on the lacquered frame, consistent with age.
