A Large Iki Ningyō Depicting A Kabuki Theatre Actor
A large iki ningyō made of wood, gesso, and pigments with glass eyes, depicting a Kabuki theatre actor—likely Matsumoto Kōshirō VII (1870–1949)—in the role of Benkei from the Kabuki play Kanjinchō. He wears a kimono made of fabric and silk, holding the fake “kanjinchō” register in his right hand and a Buddhist juzu rosary in his left.
