An antique ivory netsuke depicting a crouching deer.
The animal is shown in a natural pose, with a gentle expression, its head turned backward and eyes inlaid in horn. The surface is smooth to the touch, with a warm yellowish patina. Large himotoshi are pierced beneath the belly, next to the deer’s legs.
Period: Edo, second half of the 18th century

Condition: Excellent. Natural age lines in the ivory and light wear to the incised details
