A Pair Of Bronze Vases With Quails And Chidori Among Plants And Flowers
A pair of brown-patinated bronze vases with inlays and applied relief decoration in gilt bronze, shakudō, and silver, adorned with naturalistic scenes. The surfaces depict quails (uzura) and chidori birds amidst a rich decoration of plants, leaves, and flowers.
The side handles, inspired by archaic forms, terminate in finely modelled shishi masks, while the neck is enriched with decorative elements.
The warm brown patina, subtly nuanced in tone, enhances the contrast between the various metals and lends depth to the decoration.
