Pair Of Carved Consoles Covered With Embossed Leather. Second Half Of The 19th Century.
The sculpture features rich ornamentation composed of anthropomorphic masks surrounded by foliage and plant motifs. The use of repoussé leather is particularly noteworthy. This decorative technique, heir to a long Hispanic tradition, was widely used in furniture and liturgical objects. Embossing created richly textured surfaces by applying pressure to prepared leather. Here, the leather blends harmoniously into the ensemble as a refined decorative element, further enriching the ornamental quality of these consoles.
