Carved Nephrite Jade Fibula / Staple, China, 20th Century
Fibula or clasp made of finely polished, light celadon-hued nephrite jade.
The piece features an arched shape terminating in a stylized fantasy animal head, evoking a dragon or chimera, a traditional motif in Chinese art. The stone offers beautiful translucency and a silky touch characteristic of nephrite.
The clasp rests on a circular knob carved in the mass allowing its attachment. The sculptural work remains sober and refined, highlighting the quality of the material.
