Hénin & Cie - Large helmet ewer in 950 thousandths sterling silver, Louis XIV Regency decor

Description

Magnificent helmet ewer in first-title 950 thousandths sterling silver made by the prestigious firm of Hénin & Cie,circa 1900, one of the great signatures of Parisian silverware of the XIXᵉ and XXᵉ centuries, renowned for the exceptional quality of its productions and its refined interpretation of French styles.

This elegant ewer features the traditional "helmet" shape, inherited from the ceremonial models of the XVIIᵉ and XVIIIᵉ centuries. Its slender profile is emphasized by a wide, scalloped pouring spout and a curved, scrolled handle, whose harmonious curves lend the ensemble a great deal of lightness despite the size of its silver mass.

The body is entirely enriched with a Regency Louis XIV-style engraved decoration, composed of moving cartouches, stylized shells, finely chased foliage, foliage and bunches of grapes. The particularly meticulous engraving creates a subtle contrast between the polished surfaces and the matte backgrounds, highlighting the elegance of the silhouette and the finesse of the decoration.

Resting on a circular molded pedestal with pearled frieze, this ewer perfectly illustrates the French taste for reinterpretations of the great styles of the XVIIIᵉ century. Its consequent weight of almost a kilogram of solid silver testifies to the quality of manufacture and generosity of material characteristic of the high-end productions of the house of Hénin & Cie.

.

A display object as much as a collector's piece of silverware, this ewer is a remarkable testament to the expertise of the great Parisian workshops.
