Neoclassical Side Table In Elm Burl, 19th Century
An elegant 19th-century Neoclassical side table, perfect for placing between two armchairs or in an entryway. Its unusual rectangular shape with rounded corners, crafted from elm burl on a solid walnut frame, is particularly understated and timeless. The swirling, marbled grain is typical of French cabinetmaking of this period. The four cabriole legs, shaped like an X, are called "lyre legs" when more stylized. The legs flare outwards and are joined by a turned stretcher with a central baluster. It retains its original brass casters, a common feature on living room furniture for easily moving tea or game tables. The warm honey tone of the walnut is achieved with a French polish finish.
