Henry Malfroy, Marine Painting "view Of Provence", Oil On Canvas, Signed, 20th Century
Artist: Malfroy Charles
Henry Malfroy, a remarkably painted seascape, "View of Provence," oil on canvas, signed lower right. Henry Malfroy (1895-1944) was a painter of seascapes and landscapes, a Post-Impressionist. Born January 15, 1895, in Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône), he died in 1942. He apprenticed at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Charles Malfroy, who may have been his father, with whom he is often confused. He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934. Adopting a technique close to Impressionism, he painted the coasts and ports of the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var regions, as well as landscapes of Paris and the banks of the Seine. Settling in Martigues, he broadened his brushstrokes, brightening his compositions and drawing closer to Provençal landscape painters like Ziem.
