Adolphe Itasse was a pupil of painter Belloc and sculptor Jacquot. He made his debut at the Salon in 1864, winning a third-class medal in 1875. He received an honorable mention at the Exposition universelle of 1889. In addition to creating charming romantic subjects such as the work presented here, he worked on important public monuments, including the Paris Opera and Hôtel de Ville.
