Antique Painting Signed By Valentino White 20sec.
The painting depicts a view of the island of Capri; on the left lies a calm, crystal-clear sea, while on the right an imposing rocky cliff dominates the scene, adorned with typical Mediterranean scrub.
In the background of the cove, light-colored architectural structures are visible, where the warm, natural light illuminates the rocky contours, enhancing their volume.
The brushwork is textured yet precise, influenced by the Impressionist style inherited from his grandfather, James Talmage White.
Biography.
White Valentino (Positano, 1909 – Ravello, 1985)A painter of remarkable talent, White Valentino showed a marked aptitude for painting and drawing from a young age, despite his father’s initial resistance, which prevented him from pursuing formal art studies.
While still very young, he moved to Capri, where he began working as a professional photographer. At the same time, he had the opportunity to refine his painting technique by following the “indirect school” of his grandfather, the famous English painter James Talmage White.
Throughout his life, Valentino lived in several significant locations in Campania, including the slopes of Vesuvius, in the town of Torre del Greco, and later Ravello, where he settled permanently. His artistic career gained significant recognition in the 1950s, a period in which he established himself thanks to a series of highly successful exhibitions held in Rome. Among the highlights of his exhibition career was his participation in the 12th edition of the Interprovincial Art Exhibition of the Fascist Union of Fine Arts of Campania, held in Naples in 1942, where he presented the work Impression.
He spent the last years of his life in Rome, leaving a significant mark on the artistic landscape of his time.
