Mother-of-pearl And Silver Pocket Lantern, 18th Century

Late 18th century round pocket lantern, made of chased mother-of-pearl and silver mounting. This precious object, designed to hold a small candle, unfolds thanks to a delicate pleated paper forming a portable lantern.

A refined testament to the aristocratic art of living under the Ancien Régime, this type of object was reserved for a privileged clientele.

Note: in 2022, the Osenat auction house sold a similar model that belonged to Queen Marie-Antoinette, underscoring the rarity and historical interest of these delicate objects of curiosity.
