Travel Bottle Cooler
Travel bottle cooler, dating from the early 19th century, featuring a painted sheet-metal body with rounded corners, accented with brass studs and topped with a wooden lid.
The lid reveals four circular compartments designed to hold bottles, each accompanied by its own metal cup.
The interior is entirely lined with zinc, forming a reservoir to hold ice around the bottles. A small drain plug, located at the bottom of the compartment, allowed for the easy drainage of water resulting from the melting ice.
This type of portable icebox was thus part of the culture of travel and outdoor dining in the early 19th century.
