White Porcelain Group – Romantic And Pastoral Scene – 18th Century
A white porcelain group depicting a lively, pastoral scene featuring three figures in a countryside setting.
The composition features a young man standing, wearing a hat and carrying a game bag, accompanied by two elegantly dressed young women. One is seated in the foreground next to a basket overflowing with fruit, while the other leans toward an animal. The ensemble rests on a rocaille terrace adorned with a tree trunk, flowers, foliage, fruit, and various finely modeled naturalistic elements.
The richness of the composition, the numerous embellishments, the rendering of the costumes and faces, as well as the gallant and pastoral spirit are characteristic of 18th-century Rococo taste.
Glazed white porcelain, likely an 18th-century German piece. The piece is hollow and has an unglazed underside. No clearly identifiable manufacturer’s mark has been found. A connection to German productions, particularly those from Saxony and Thuringia, can be considered, though no definitive attribution is possible at this time.
