Profane Medieval Bronze Sign depicting a Cat - 13th / 14th Century, Gothic

The representation of the cat remains relatively uncommon in the Middle Ages in this form of furniture or decorative object; it appears more in manuscript illuminations and marginalia of the period. This piece thus constitutes a particularly singular testimony to secular medieval iconography.

The modeling is typically medieval, with a stylized, expressive silhouette. Details are highlighted by fine chasing punctuated by small decorative dots. Beautiful antique black patina.

The object comes from an old French collection and was discovered formerly in Sens, in the Yonne, in a fluvial context.

Very good condition. Rare piece on the market.

Dimensions: 4.7 x 3.2 cm.

A choice piece for lovers of medieval bestiary as well as the feline world.
