Hard Stone Vase In The Chalcolithic Style, Circa 3500-3200 Bc.
Hardstone vase in the manner of Chalcolithic productions, circa 3500-3200 B.C.
Important lapidary vase carved from fine-grained hardstone.
The vessel adopts a deeply bulging globular shape, resting on a slight annular pedestal, and opens with a wide mouth highlighted by a thick circular bead.
The body is embellished with two small, opposing side grips, evoking the suspension systems seen on some Near Eastern Chalcolithic vases. The interior is carefully hollowed out and polished
This archaizing piece is inspired by the lapidary production of the great protohistoric centers of the Ancient Near East, notably the prestige vases produced between the end of the 4th millennium and the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. The treatment of the material, the thickness of the rim and the stylized side handles recall the formal repertoires of this period.
