Object description :

"Head Of Bacchus In Roman Marble "
Head of a young Bacchus in Roman marble White marble head representing a juvenile Bacchus.

The face has rounded features and hair in thick locks. He wears a crown composed of corymbs and ivy leaves. The top of the head is notched with a quadrangular cavity, suggesting a fixing element The most remarkable element of this head is the opulent crown that adorns it: it is made of corymbs (clusters of small berries, generally ivy or vines) intertwined in abundant, wavy hair, dynamically stylized. The ivy is sculpted in relief, accentuating the sacred and festive character of this figure. The back of the head reveals a quadrangular notch at the top, indicating that it was probably an added element (fixing key) or integrated into a relief or piece of furniture.

Bacchus (the Roman name for Dionysus among the Greeks) is a central figure in the ancient pantheon. God of wine, vines, celebration, theater and mystical trance, he symbolizes both the joy of living and the dissolution of limits. He is often depicted young, beardless, crowned with ivy or vines, accompanied by thyrsuses, panthers or maenads.

The head will be delivered with a block of wood for a base
