Beautiful medallion of the ancient philosopherPlato, a medal showing his straight profile, surrounded by a text : the wise Greek philosopher Plato.
The use of burr wood, steam-formed in a press in a steel matrix dates from late18-early 19th century.
It was used for both sides of luxury Tric-trac, Backgammon tokens, and for the lids of round boxes, snuffboxes and drageoirs.
It is presented here in a black wooden frame with silk velvet and brass border.
Frame: 12 cm , medallion: 6cm.
