This brush was part of an 18th-century Venetian toiletry set, made from lacquered wood, as is sometimes found, including a large tray, an easel mirror, wig boxes, powder boxes, pin boxes, brushes, and combs…
Made from wood and bristles, decoration is a lacquer "pebbled" with silver and bronze powder in varnish, with watercolor cutouts, here depicting a gallant couple on centre, surrounded by a frieze of flowers.
Brush top is acceptable condition, complete over approximately 80% of its surface.
The bristles are original, only half remain, and more are still being lost.
The rustic system of holes allows for re-insertion. As seen in our photos.
