This fragment of cartonnage from the Late Period (664-332 B.C.) is a truly exceptional piece. It features numerous hieroglyphs painted in blue, dark red and yellow. Cartonnage, composed of superimposed layers of papyrus or linen, assembled with animal glue or vegetable gum and covered with plaster, was a typical form of sarcophagus or coffin, notably for masks, necklaces or integral coffins.
This impressively large fragment (35.6 cm (H) x 21.6 cm (W)) is presented in a 40.6 cm x 30.5 cm vitrine frame, ideal for display and conservation.
