Frame containing a sample of the bread during the Siege of Paris (1870-1871) when Prussian troops encircled Paris.
Bread was a daily ration, an almost exclusive food, for all besieged Parisians.
Two gilded metal medals of Napoleon III and Wilhelm I overhang the balance sheet of this period (food prices, human toll, key surrender dates).
Nice carved gilded wood bead frame, period protective glass.
