BiographyMONNECOVE (Gaston Le Sergeant de), painter, born in St-Omer in 1836 and died in 1899.
A pupil of Giuseppe Palizzi, he took part in the Paris Salon, from 1865 to 1881, presenting landscapes. He was a member of the Société des peintres de vénerie, the Société des artistes français and the Société savante d'agriculture de Montreuil-sur-Mer, Boulogne and Saint-Omer (the society behind the creation of the Saint-Omer municipal museum). Mayor of Radinghem, he owned a château in this commune, which he had restored in 1883 by the architect Clovis Normand.
The Musée de St-Omer conserves one of his paintings: Étang en forêt (wild boar hunting scene), presented at the 1881 Salon.
