"Restoration Period Mahogany Writing Case, 19th-19th Century"
A Restoration period flame mahogany writing box with its original key, inkwell, and sandblasting box (solid silver lid hallmarked by the silversmith JL Varin, registered in 1817). The interior reveals a secret: a thin mahogany plate can be removed from the left side, leading to a spring-loaded board that can also be removed. The lock is functional. Condition: minor restorations consistent with age, added green felt lining, small piece missing from the inkwell receptacle.
