Paris 1834-1847 - Medici Silver-covered Cruet By E. A. Courtois, Vieillard
It stands on a circular pedestal decorated with a chased frieze of water leaves, resting on a square base with four ball feet. The body features a finely executed openwork design of arches, palmettes and fleuron friezes. The acanthus scrolled handles end with a pair of doves, a symbol of love and union.
The stave lid, with its particularly harmonious proportions, is topped by a blossoming seed-shaped grip, with finely pierced foliage. The ensemble is distinguished by the quality of its execution and the balance of its silhouette, characteristic of goldsmiths of the Restoration period.
