Historical note
Founded in Paris in 1830, the house of CHRISTOFLE rapidly establishes itself as one of the leading Parisian silversmiths. Appointed supplier to King LOUIS PHILIPPE, it receives in 1846 an important commission for a table service for the Château d’Eu.
Under the Second Empire, CHRISTOFLE attains international renown following the commission by EMPEROR NAPOLEON III of a monumental state service, presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1855.
As Silversmith to the King and Purveyor to the Emperor, the firm works for the principal European courts and develops, from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, a refined production of tableware combining technical mastery, elegance of form and decorative innovation.
